I like my men dark, and my decor darker

I don't know if it is the cold weather or what, but I am positively obsessed with dark, smart rooms lately. I can't get enough, and I am constantly thinking about transforming my bedroom into a deep blue oasis...with the only white being the crisp sheets. Right now we have a gypsy bed, as I like to call it, patterns galore. We have a rental, and like lots of renters, we don't want to make a huge commitment in this home, and my decorating style has been sort of light and happy and...boring! I want dark dark dark!!! I want the feeling of an eclectic cave, full of oil paintings and rugs...

Would you go for a dark room? or a dark house? Do you think you would get sick of it? more sick of it than you would of a light color? blark!

p.s. my favorite is that pink room with the red couch and all the paintings...oh my!

  1. These are all amazing. I love all the books. My dream is to one day have a library in my house.

  2. Gorgeous. Growing up my mom never painted our walls (they were always white), I can't wait to be able to paint paint paint.

  3. I have to say I'm a girl who loves bright, crisp and light rooms with pops of color and dark woods though in the mix. BUT I have been falling more and more in love with chocolate covered walls - that has been getting me lately....

  4. Recently I've liked more and more the dark rooms I've seen in magazines. And I've kind of decided that when I some day have a home I can decorate a bit more, I want to have one of several wallpapers (by Finnish Tapettitalo) I love - all dark.
But, on the other hand, in Finland it's really really dark in the winter, so would it be too dark if I had dark walls? Well, 'luckily' I won't get to decide the colour of my walls in the next few years either.

  5. I tell you what, I just adore a deep blue on the walls. The important thing with painting dark colors is making sure you get plenty of natural light in the room. Otherwise, it will end up looking depressing and maybe a tad creepy.

  6. I too am loving the dark. Very different from what inspires me right now.

  9. In my mind I always imagine designing a room in my future home with red walls and I don't know if that is the best idea, but it is something that I can't help day dreaming about. I also love dark colors.

  10. I love the dark! All of it. Will your landlord let you paint? (Even if not, I say go for it and paint it back if you have to). I love the pink. Reminds me of my grandma and her salmon pink salon style walls at her old house. Not sure if you saw this post before...http://foundnowhome.blogspot.com/2007/09/inspiration-close-to-home-part-2.html

  11. I love it in other people's homes, and it's so daring. But I always find myself painting the walls some insanely bright color.

  12. Love these rooms! We have a teeny bedroom (literally the queen bed is wall to wall) and I was afraid of it feeling sterile + claustrophobic. So I painted it a deep, Moroccan blue (similar to the color in the room with the mirror over the fireplace.) I love the color and it makes our teeny space feel cozy and warm. I got the idea from a Paris hotel room we stayed in a couple years ago. Now I'm stuck on deep blue and will likely paint our next bedroom a similar color (even if it's larger than a cubbie!)

  13. Good Lord. How did I miss your home on D*S?! Amazing!

I recently re-painted our living room from a deep red to a greige. I know, I know...but it was bringing me down and hard to decorate around. I seem to need light, light, light. But with that said...these rooms are stunning and I'll always have a spot in my heart for some dark drama. :)
