Our wedding

Is up over at Snippet and Ink...go and have a peak. I posted a few more images here...couldn't help myself. Shot by Aregrayline Weddings. You can see a whole bunch more here...if you are one of those kinds of people. I will tell you right now I will not hold it against you, I am most certainly one of those kinds of people, and proud of it.
Update: Since I have received so many questions from you guys, and from readers over at Snippet and Ink, I thought I would address those here :)

1 My bouquet, O's boutonniere, and bride's maids corsages all came from Nicholas Kniel. I didn't construct them myself, the fabulous Mr. Kniel did that. I designed them and I paid about $400 for all of it together. Keep in mind that a regular sized bride's bouquet made from live flowers can easily cost a couple of hundred dollars or more! I bought a Melissa Sweet hair flower pin made from shredded silk on eBay for $6.
2. Our wedding was inexpensive by wedding standards, but we compromised because what we really wanted to do was elope! Our wedding was small, 40 people. Yes, we were brutal with the guest list. We even had some people boycott our event b/c we didn't invite their kids. I wanted to make the invites by hand, and offer a very intimate, exceptional experience for each guest, so they all felt loved and appreciated, that is another reason for a small wedding. After the dinner, we all went to the Ritz Carlton for dancing and goofing around. A lot of extra people came to that, but it was totally word of mouth.

The private dinning room at Joel set up for the ceremony.

3. Money! We spend a lot on my Melissa Sweet dress (I sold it and got back a lot of my money), O's suite, and dinner at Joel, one of Atlanta's best restaurants. We love good food. We also paid for hotel rooms for our wedding party. At the Ritz, all we paid for was the bar tab, that we limited to $1,000. So we got a band, and a dance floor, dedicated servers, beautiful ambiance, the entire lounge and all the time we wanted for that much. Anyone planning a wedding knows what a good deal that is! Also, no live flowers, for dinner it was all candle light, very romantic. My cashmere vintage, beaded sweater was $20 with shipping. My "reception dress" was $60 or so, can't remember, on eBay, + $40 for major alterations. Shoes, zappos $30, O's tie, $20 from Silk Ties online, didn't buy wedding party attire, they could wear what they wanted so long as it was in our color area. In short, both of our venues are very beautiful, and we didn't decorate them at all, that saves tons of money, and vendor fees.

4. Time! Joel is attached to other buildings and there is a beautiful lobby in between, that the private dinning room is located off of. So as guests arrived to a private room set up for the ceremony, O and I were hiding out, drinking lots of watter and taking photos with Erin, our photographer. Then we had the ceremony and after, everyone came out into the lobby for passed snacks and wine to take photos and mingle. We had the back drop set up at this time and encouraged sillyness, my boob even made an appearance. We had fun. During this time the room was set up for dinner. We only paid for the food and wine and the champagne. We didn't have a room fee, or extra servers fee or a time limit.

Hanging out before the big event. I did my own hair and make-up.

We took some photos before the ceremony. Not a traditional move, but made it way easier for us to enjoy the party after the ceremony.

After, we had a yummy dinner in the same room we exchanged vows in. We didn't have to pay a room fee, since it was a restaurant, but it was totally private, and we didn't have to pay extra for set up and break down of the room.

We set up some fabric as a backdrop, and had all of our guests goof off and have Erin take their photo, it was much, much fun! People really goofed off :)

Then we went over to the Ritz, so we could invite all of our friends and family, including folks who where not at the wedding. We had a blast. There is excellent service, a great band, a dance floor, servers and valet...and it didn't cost us anything...except for the bar tab of course.

Remember this dress? I had it altered to wear as a "reception dress." The raglan sleeves were huge on me, so I had it turned sleeveless, and it worked out quite well...except the hem fell out right before we were about to leave, so I had to stitch it up right quick with the hotel sewing kit!

A couple of days later we had a fun shoot at the park! It was fall, the leaves were turning, it was perfect. I always wanted to get married in the fall...No event is done for me until there is some serious goofing around.

  2. Awesome! Looks like y'all had a blast!

We're getting hitched next fall, and I was wondering where you got that beautiful wide piece of fabric. Did you stitch two lengths together down the middle? I'm in Atlanta, and somewhat familiar with the fabric district. Love to know your secrets!

  3. Victory Bird, thanks! I got the fabric at Lewis and Sharon, behind forsyth fabrics...they are super helpful there, and have a wonderful selection. They have some really great sales, so ask them about those before you buy. I got 15 yards, and sew two lengths together. It was easy.

  13. Looks so nice! We are contemplating a similar scenario for our wedding (ceremony & dinner all at restaurant in MA). I have a silly question for you? Was it weird during the transition from ceremony set up to dinner set up? That's the only thing I can't picture and was curious how it went for you. Would love to hear! Thanks!!

  22. Your wedding was beautiful. It almost makes me sad that we didn't opt for a smaller more intimate wedding (we're having almost 100 guests).

I do have one question about your dress: which Melissa Sweet style is it? It's looks very similar to my gown, the Melissa Sweet Dora, but with floral embellishments which I am envying.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jessebel, my dress is the Eugenia, it isn't on the website anymore, it is from fall 06. It has the same shape as the Dora, which I love by the way! but it has an over layer of silk tulle with embroidery and flowers, and a defined waist with a ribbon around it and a tuxedo bow in the back, and the train is different. But essentially, the style is similar, and very flattering! I hope you will send me pictures :)
