15% off fo yo mama yo

I have a mother's day special going on! Oops, forgot to tell you. Enter "fifteen" at checkout to get 15% off of your order. I should have named the code: "Ilovemymama" or "motherofalldiscounts", or even "numbertoyomama". But I got lazy.

1. I am going to be in Miami until Sunday. So...make of that what you will.

2. Remember that part in Idiocracy where they go into the Costco and the greeters say "I love you." That has been making me laugh all week.

3. If you order anything, then it will ship on Monday the 6th (or maybe the next day...depending on how much I like you.)

Doing anything fun this weekend? I am going to be painting, and writing some blog posts. I am having a small crisis: I hate all of my paintings right now. I have this need to express something else with my painting right now...and I have to hunker down and make it happen or I will wither and die. Uh! I am an arteeeest, so I get to say dramatic stuff like that.

I also am going to make the final push to finish up our house (or at least tie up loose ends.) Our dishwasher has been needing to go for a while, and it has become so loud that we can't talk to each other in the kitchen when its on...yeah. Its gotta go. Also, hello gas stove! Thats happening too.

In other, other news. Did you see the Hable Construction lady's house? In Athens, Ga? Hoot Hoot! Hubba Hubba and other Three Stooges noises! You know I love me some HC.

Lordy! I love me some pattern on pattern action. Getting kinda panty over here.

Also, whats a good white, light grey color that you like?

Air Pistols

A few weeks ago a lovely lady named Emily emailed me with images of her beautiful living room, in progress. She was looking for something large with dusty blues and silver tones. As soon as I saw the room I thought about this painting that I had not posted yet, Air Pistols. I had this feeling that the fresh minty green and bold gold would really stand out and be interesting in her space. Well, I love how it looks in there. Thats all. Just bragging.

I named this painting for my friend Matt, or Matty Biz to his friends. I shared some good news with him once and he just leaned back in his chair and pulled "pistols" out of his pockets and shot them up in the air. Pew Pew Pew!! It was hilarious, and adorable.

My quick little trip to Belgium

O has been away on business so much lately. He was recently in Frankfurt and Antwerp, so at the last moment I decided to join him in Brussels after he was all done with work to chill out and eat and wander for four days. I found us an apartment in Upper town (Brussels is divided between Upper town, and Lower Town.) Lower town is more touristy and cozier with the older areas and the Grand Place. We chose Upper Town because the apartment is on a quiet street, all offices around us. Also it was just perfect became it looked clean and cute and had plenty of room and a little back porch. For me outside space is a must! I want to pretend I am a local. The metro system is super easy to use, its a pretty small city.

I love all the beautiful details. One day the doors were open on that stunning terrace and we could see someone typing away at their desk. I wanted to fly over and look around!

1. I arrived pretty well rested, but kinda jet lagged. O and I were so happy to see each other! We took our time un-packing and getting the laundry started for O. I was impatient to get out and about so we headed right out to visit the Grand Place. We had a touristy lunch wich we devoured anyway and then came back to take a nap.

For dinner we tried to go to this cute little place but the owner told us that they were booked up solid, on a Wednesday night! We made a reservation for the next night, and had mules and frites, and plenty of beer down the street.

2. The next day we tried to go to a Patisserie our host had recommended, but we were not in the mood for so much bread. Oh, you can't get away from eating bread in Europe! Luckily we had stocked up on yogurt and ham/cheese and fruit. Best part of being in an apartment vs. a hotel. We had fun at the Comic Strip Museum. O for the comics, me for the history of the Horta designed building. After, we strolled along and had frites (french fries that are double fried in beef fat! Plus lots of mayo, really good fatty mayo. YUM!)

We happend upon this really beautiful little park and ended up taking a nap! I was dreaming and everything. I woke up because an adorable little girl was sniffing me! She was holding a huge blue soccer ball and running around to everyone in the park. She ran away when I said hello. After we needed a little pick me up; hot chocolate and chocolate croissant! Yes please.

We never went home that day so to kill time before our beautiful dinner, we had some Kwak. Our favorite beer.

I should have taken photos of our dinner. It was a mother and son team and they drive to Florence to buy fresh ingredients every few weeks. We stuffed ourselves and really enjoyed the friendly people and delish fresh pasta.

3. We just wandered around eating Shwarma on the third day, oh and tasting beer.

4. We woke up early and went to Antwerp. It was a Saturday, the sun was shining. Sheer bliss! We were craving brunch a lot and we found this adorable little patio in the sun and the servers were so nice to us, even though they didn't speak french, and we didn't speak Dutch. Then we strolled around and had more frites and beer and cheese. I bought some shoes from a cute little store, and it seriously could not have been nicer. I wish we had spent more time there.

We made it back to Brussels just in time to have dinner at the famous Les Brasseries Georges. Best grilled Sole and Steak Tartar of my life! We sat outside with a view of the national forrest, and enjoyed the people watching and ate waaaay too much.

Today I am back at it! Woke up at five AM ready to start the action. Salad for the rest of the week yo! I already posted most of these images on Instagram btw.

Thank you to everyone for your patience. I have replied to all emails, and all orders are in process!

Tuesday, April 16

See you later

You will find me here giggling with O and drinking a beer until Sunday. Peace out lovers. Keep up with me on Instagram for the pretending you are in Brussels too.

Note: All orders placed from 4.15 - 4.23 will go out after the 23rd. Like that week. So take a chill pill.

Recognizing my needs aren't silly

So this morning I was getting ready for my usual Monday: coffee, chug a bunch of water, answer emails, stuff a banana in my mouth on the way to the gym, do 30 mins of cardio, then work out with my trainer...then more cardio...then go to the studio and work like a beast getting out orders, scramble to the post office....drag myself home.

I have been tired lately, can you tell. I noticed that every blog post lately has been whiny, or I say I am so tired. Cuz, well. I am tired! Ever since I got adrenal fatigue I get tired more easily. So easy to write, much harder to remember. You know when you are tired and you say, oh yes well thats because I was up all night, and I did six hours of yard work in the sun yesterday! Well, I get that kind of tired sometimes, but the day before I didn't do all that stuff. I was just normal, but I feel tired like an Egyptian slave.

My travel style inspiration.
Although, this weekend I kinda rocked it epic style, but not making a pyramid in the sun kinda action. Anyway. I woke up today, felt my body begging me to take it easy and did my usual justification in my head..."well you can't be tired, you gotta push through, give it 110%"...Then I remembered that I am a grown woman, in her 30's! gasp. I have a responsibility to take care of myself and listen to myself.

More travel style inspiration. Lets see what I can do hmmm.
I cancelled my trainer appointment, scheduled lunch with a friend, and am about to walk my puppies on this soggy day. They love puddles. Puddles are like puppy crack.

I am going to pack, go to the post office and maybe try to buy some trainers right quick.

I love art and dresses!

I was trying to re-focus my thoughts on creation so that I could tear myself away from email and start to paint. I love to stop by some of my favorite blogs and I found two new awesome websites! So fun!

Leif. Its super cute. I love a place to find affordable original, quirky art. I saw this via Jordan.

I think I would buy this one by Malissa Ryder. Whoa, that link will send you down a rabbit hole!

I also like this one from her shop.

Then I saw the Dina dress from En Soie on Joy's blog. Isn't she adorable? She has great style. This dress pretty much has everything I would want in a dress. The shape is flattering, it goes past the knees, has a button down collar for customized boobage, and an easy sleeve shape too. It comes in nice prints as well. I particularly like the blue one. So classic!

What a pretty print. I also like the blue. What do you think orange or blue? I am headed to LA in May, but my friend lives about an hour away from this shop, so its kinda not gonna happen.

How do you cope when you HATE someone? Oh and Brussels!

There is a dude in my hood who makes me feel gross and threatened by always saying I look fine and paying too much attention to me. He is always hanging around, and seems lazy but not on drugs. Mostly he seems kinda harmless. He followed me down the street in his truck telling me how fine I looked and so forth for a whole block while I walked my dogs. I said "fine," "thanks" and didn't look at him. I think my body language was pretty evidently disgusted by him.

This must end. I find myself trying to avoid going out the front door in case he is there. Thank goodness he doesn't live on my street, just visits the house across the street a lot. I usually wear yoga pants to walk in, but lately I find myself reaching for my "ass-masking jeans." Part of me wants to say screw him and I am wearing my yoga pants, and part of me just wants to be inconspicuous.

How do I deal with this? Confront him? Ignore him? Police? Help me channel my inner Julia Shugarbaker!

Ok, lets move on to something positive shall we? I am going to Brussels! Yup. Just randomly decided to join O after a business trip he is finishing up in Antwerp next week. We are meeting to have a romantic little trip and eat our weight in frites. Not to mention mussels, beer (not my favorite but I am willing to learn about beer,) museums, chocolate, historical homes, and quirky art. I am so excited! I found us an apartment real fast. Wanna see?

I can't wait to have coffee on that little patio in the mornings. I will be gone only about six days, but it has been so fun planning this trip on such short notice! Usually I would have said no, I have too much work to do, but I am making positive changes in my life, and being more spontaneous is one of them. Anyone have any recommendations?

I felt way better after I wrote that post about the icky guy. Mostly because it helps to talk about stuff that bothers us, and also because I am trying to confront things that make me uncomfortable in an effort to be more present in my life, and brood less. I couldn't just say "hey, we are going to Brussels.." because it didn't feel honest. I couldn't just complain because it felt like spreading my bad juju...So this is my compromise. Seriously, let me know if there is anything amazing in Brussels that I must see. You guys have the best advice, the best taste and the best taste in blogs to read.

Its always a good idea to make a happy list too :)

Also, I switched to Bloglovin, and I love it. Reader used to sometime upload my posts before they were finished being edited, then never refresh the feed, so my half written post would be up forever. It was a pain because I never knew when it was going to happen, and also, I like to edit my posts after I am finished with the first draft. I a not a natural writer, and I need to hash stuff out as I go along. Bloglovin is great because it takes you right to the blog home page, which I really like. From there you can change the blog you want to see from the drop down menue on the top left. Its magical.

Paige Maitland is awesome

It happend so fast! One day I am instagram chatting with a cutie pie photographer and then the next day she is in my studio hanging out with me. Paige came over last week and I don't know exactly why but I felt like I had known her for a long time already. Right off the bat we started talking about deep stuff, and being honest about life. Isn't that funny how it happens like that. So we had total chemistry and I really think it shows in the stunning photos of my studio and moi! I feel self conscious having my photo taken lately, or in the last few years so I was hesitant at first, but that lasted about two seconds. I am such a control freak when it comes to aesthetics, but I could tell right away that I was going to really dig Paige's perspective and eye, and that I was going to love seeing things through her lens.

I had so much fun. Thank yo Paige for taking time out of your crazy busy life to come and visit!

I told you that my desk was a shrine to O. Here you have it.

Always trying to promote places I love in Atlanta, I made a list of "must eat" places around here.

I love my Klimpt book that I got in New York at the Neue Gallery. My favorite bracelet for good luck, and my Tom Ford sunglasses.

I wish I had taken the time to actually style my hair...already fantasizing about cutting it all off again!

I have samples of all of these prints chilling out here. Everyone who comes in here thinks that they are original paintings. I am proud of how well they turned out.

It is hard for me to paint while having a conversation with someone else, but in this case I managed pretty well. These images remind me of the last time I had a portrait taken here in my studio, and I am reminded about how much my life and body has changed since then. I felt energetic and normal, not sweaty and shaky like last time. I feel like I am on the cusp of a real turn around to normalcy for me. Or rather, I am turning the bend but I just can't quite see around it yet...I bet its a really pretty view.

Paige shoots weddings, portrait sessions, family sessions or anything you want. Contact her here!

I know I will be having her come shoot for me again, if even just to get a sneaky reason to hang out with her. Some day we will have to compile a "book" for our adoption process. A way for prospective birth mothers to see what our lives and families are like. I will for sure call Paige then to capture us and our lives, what a great idea Michelle. Why thank you Michelle, yes it is.
