Pretty Panties

I.wear.granny.panties. Whew, wow, that feels great to get off my chest. No, I don't even wear nice undies on special occasions! I wore the granniest panties (um, up past the belly-button, down past the bum, yes...yes) under my wedding dress...granted I was seeking comfort, and I had layers and layers of silk to contend with...and I had just had major surgery...

But, lately, several people around me have found themselves...shall we say...having some extra company, and needing a little something frilly under the bulky wool sweater, these lucky ladies asked me to come on a little special shopping trip with them this weekend, and I must say, it forced me to consider the fact that maybe my personal wardrobe could use a little update.

So off we went to the dreaded Victoria's Secret (I have not walked into a Victoria's Secret store since...7th grade? Why was I in there in 7th grade? I think my friends and I were trying on feather boas and silk frilly robes and laughing ourselves silly.) In fact, some things are, dare I say, pretty, and might even be something I might wear. Yes, even I can be convinced to turn my nose up at my extra large granny panties.

Now, I am fully aware that some diligent shopping may turn up some not mass-produced undies, but I don't feel like it, so there, and neither do my lady friends. They have other things on their minds, dirty ladies, plus, they have to shave.

These are cute right? Totally respectable right? So where do you buy your undies??? Oh, and for the sake of full disclosure, (since I know you are totally picturing me in those granny panties...I bought this :) Uhm....a total, TOTAL necessity.

  3. I usually get underwear at American Eagle, when they are on sale I stock up. They are cute colors and designs and are comfortable. I like the boybrief style.

I sometimes shop at Victoria's Secret and because I like their bras.

I've also been looking at Etsy lately and found some cute stuff there but I don't know if I want to pay that much for just a pair of underwear.

  4. I have just become obsessed with Victoria's Secret... I think the power of pretty lingerie is seriously underestimated.

  5. Well first, thank you for stopping by my blog - I am quite certain I did not have inspiring photos of undies on my post - probably because like you, I am prone to gravitate (or used to gravitate) toward ahem 'un-sexy' underwear. Mine generally consisted of flower covered bikinis from the Gap, sometimes white ones. I have graduated to something better since then - hanky panky all the way. I can't believe how that brand holds up in the wash and still manages to look good. I stock up everytime I am in the States.

  6. This post gave me the giggles. First off if my tummy looked these girls I wouldn't wear any! I had emergency surgery a bit ago so my tummy isn't the prettiest at the moment. I have purchase at VS, but either Nordstrom or Macy and yes at times I have worn grannie ones and they are comfy, but usually were a little below the hips. Fun post! xoxo

  7. To be fair, I buy packs of 5 usually from Marks and Spencer's or H&M depending on which patterns I prefer ;)

  8. THESE are Victoria's Secret?! Why did I think all of their stuff had the giant word "PINK" on the butt? These are actually pretty and classy...

  9. This is the kind of lingerie I'd wear every day, if I could afford it (and I mean the stuff you've linked to, not Victoria's Secret in general...).
Just last weekend my sweetheart asked me, bewildered, do I often wear a bra & panties which do not match. Does somebody really wear a matching set every day? (It seems like he hasn't been paying much attention what I've been wearing under my clothes until now.)

By the way, I just noticed that blue and white print of yours in the sidebar. Had to go to Little Paper Planes to check it out, it's just lovely!

  11. What a pretty (yet vomit inducing) post. Who the heck looks like that? Anyway. I buy my bras at VS because they are the only peeps who make bras that fit me right. And I buy my undies at Aerie. You know, the American Eagle undies unit. They fit really well and come in the cutest colors.

  12. I totally hear you! I recently went into a VS...I hadn't stepped inside of one for years. I was blown away by 1/2 of their inventory. And their new color pallet!...such pretty pale colors!

they come in such fun colors, but it's all about the fit for me. i suggest going a size bigger than your normal size if you get these. binding panties are no fun! what i want to know is where do you get your grannie panties and what brand do you prefer?

  14. Great suggestions. I went to Macy's one day and got about 20 pair of their "cotton old lady" variety in black...and then this fall, when I had major surgery, I had a big scar across my lower pelvis, so I wanted a higher waist line. I got the silky ones, in XL! The butt hangs off..it is bad, but I was so swollen, and had a bruise the size of a grapefruit...and I could only wear mumus...I have several. So I had pantie lines too, it was HOT. I don't know the brand...I never checked. I also hate shopping, so I am in and out, fast like.

  16. Doing the 'Bridget Jones' thing with knickers is not illegal! I go for the french knicker look...cute and functional and with no abrasive, scratchy, itchy lace.

  17. Wow, that's crazy man. They should really try to do something to fix that.
